Learning Support:
The Learning Support Services Department at Richmond IB International School supports students in PYP–MYP who have mild learning difficulties and/or experience challenges accessing the curriculum due to English language needs or a requirement for specific teaching approaches.
The department’s goal is to empower and develop these students so they can independently meet the demands of the IB curriculum. The Learning Support Services Team works closely and collaboratively with classroom teachers, using inclusive strategies and available resources to help students reach their full potential and successfully access the mainstream curriculum.
Eligibility for Learning Support Services:
A student may be eligible for Learning Support Services if they:
- Have an identified learning disability, and/or
- Demonstrate English language skill gaps that limit access to the curriculum
Learning Support Services Include:
- Identifying students in need through classroom observations, as well as cognitive, academic, and achievement assessments
- Supporting teachers in developing and implementing inclusive teaching strategies tailored to individual student needs
- Planning, implementing, and monitoring Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Providing appropriate accommodations (e.g., extended test time, laptop use)
- Offering one-on-one and small-group instruction to address specific skills, needs, or subject areas
- Delivering targeted small-group English language support
All Learning Support Services are provided on campus during the school day, ensuring consistent and integrated support for students within the school environment.
